  • Sites with Google traffic that need to keep it

Why owners move from WordPress to Squarespace

Most owners making this move want to stop maintaining a website.

Plugin security upkeep

Patchstack recorded 11,334 new vulnerabilities in the WordPress ecosystem in 2025, 42% more than the year before, and 91% of them were in plugins. Every plugin is something to update and watch.

More sites on Squarespace

Squarespace’s share of sites with a known CMS rose from 3.0% at the start of 2023 to 3.6% in October 2026, while WordPress’s fell from 63.7% to 58.3%.

One subscription instead of many

Squarespace bundles hosting, security, templates, and support. There are no plugins to update and no separate hosting bill.

Is moving off WordPress worth it?

Squarespace Core is $29 a month billed annually since its 2026 price rise, so expect similar or higher running costs. The payoff is far less to maintain.

Redirects and URLs

The WordPress URLs that need redirects

Squarespace uses its own URL patterns, so most WordPress post URLs change. Each one gets a permanent (301) redirect through Squarespace’s URL mappings.

Post URLs

WordPress posts often live at the root or under dates. Squarespace posts live under the blog page’s path, like /blog/post-name.

Redirect limits

Squarespace’s URL mappings hold about 2,500 lines. For bigger blogs we use one pattern rule, such as /[name] to /blog/[name], to cover every post at once.

Category and tag archives

WordPress /category/ and /tag/ pages have no direct Squarespace equivalent, so each one is redirected to the closest page.

Image and PDF links

Squarespace’s help center says image and file links can’t be redirected, so we plan for old /wp-content/uploads/ links to stop working. We re-upload the files, redirect the pages that linked to them, and list the files other sites link to so you can ask them to update the link. If your Squarespace site accepts a file redirect when we test it, we add one.

Feeds and page 2 links

Your blog’s RSS feed (/feed/) and its “page 2, 3…” links are easy to forget. Each gets a redirect.

Our SEO migration guarantee

Nobody can promise rankings after a migration, and we don’t. We commit in writing to the process that protects them.

Every known page is mapped

Every address we find in your sitemap, Search Console, analytics, and backlinks gets a destination: a matching page, the closest match, or a planned removal. You see the full list before launch.

Nothing breaks by accident

Pages you choose to retire are removed on purpose. If any other old link stops working after launch, we fix it.

90 days of monitoring

We watch which pages Google indexes, any errors it reports, and traffic to your moved pages for 90 days, with a report at 30, 60, and 90 days.

We fix our mistakes for free

If something we missed or broke causes a problem in those 90 days, we fix it at no cost.

The guarantee covers our work. It doesn’t cover Google algorithm updates, content you change after launch, pages removed at your request, or problems caused by your host, third-party plugins, or other vendors.

When you should stay on WordPress

If your site relies on plugins Squarespace can’t replace, or you publish at a scale that needs custom structure, WordPress is the better home. Managed WordPress hosting handles most updates and backups for you. We list every plugin and feature you use and whether Squarespace can do it, so you can decide with the full picture.

FAQ

Common questions about moving from WordPress to Squarespace.

Can Squarespace import my WordPress site?+

It can import posts and pages from a WordPress export file. The design, SEO plugin settings, forms, gallery images, and redirects still need to be rebuilt by hand.

Will I lose my Google rankings?+

Expect some movement at first. On Squarespace the main risks are post URLs moving under /blog/ and the limit of about 2,500 redirect lines, so we use pattern rules where needed, redirect every page we find in your sitemap, Search Console, analytics, and backlinks, and track search for 90 days.

Will my URLs change?+

Most post URLs will, because Squarespace uses its own URL patterns. Each changed URL gets a permanent redirect to its new address.

What happens to my plugins?+

Each one is replaced with a built-in Squarespace feature or an integration. If one has no equivalent, we tell you before work starts.

How long does it take?+

Most sites with up to 15 pages and a blog take two to four weeks.
