What moves to Shopify

Shopify’s free Store Migration app moves product and customer data. Order history, reviews, SEO fields, blog posts, and redirects take other tools or hands-on work, and that’s the part we handle.

What moves to Shopify
Products and variantsMoves unchangedMoved with their images, prices, stock, and options. Products whose options don’t fit Shopify’s structure are restructured with you first.
CustomersMoves unchangedCustomer records move. Passwords can’t be moved to Shopify, so customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email.
Order historyMoves unchangedMoved with a migration app so customers and your team can still see past orders.
ReviewsMoves, with changesExported from your current platform and imported into a Shopify review app, where the app supports it.
SEO titles and descriptionsMoves unchangedMapped into Shopify’s SEO fields for every product, collection, page, and blog post.
CategoriesMoves, with changesBecome Shopify collections, keeping the same products and, where possible, the same order.
Discounts and gift cardsMoves, with changesDiscounts are recreated in Shopify. Gift card balances move just before launch so nothing is spent twice.
Theme, apps, and pluginsRebuiltYour design is rebuilt in a Shopify theme, and add-ons are replaced with Shopify apps or built-in features.

Redirects and URLs

Where store migrations to Shopify lose traffic

Shopify sets its own address formats, so almost every store address changes. Each one that ranks or has links gets a permanent (301) redirect.

  • Fixed address formats

Shopify puts products under /products/, categories under /collections/, pages under /pages/, and posts under /blogs/. Your old addresses can’t be kept, so each one is redirected.

  • Paged and filtered category pages

Second and later pages of a category, and filtered or sorted versions of it, often rank or have links. They need their own redirects to the matching collection.

  • Images and files

Product images and PDFs on the old platform stop loading once you cancel it. We re-host them on Shopify and redirect the old file addresses that have links.

  • Shopify’s redirect limits

Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects, and each one only starts working once the old page is gone, so we build and test the full list before launch.

How Shopify migration pricing works

Store migrations are priced by catalog size, because products, variants, and orders drive most of the work. You get a quote before work begins.

How a Shopify migration works, step by step

You get a quote and timeline before any work starts.

  1. 01

    Quote

Send your site. We review it and send a quote and timeline.

  2. 02

    Build

We map every old page to its new address, rebuild your templates, and move content, images, and SEO on a private preview site you can check.

  3. 03

    Launch

We compare the old and new sites page by page, point your domain to the new site, tell Google about the new pages, and test each redirect once it’s live.

  4. 04

    Monitor

For 90 days we watch which pages Google indexes and how much traffic your moved pages get. Anything our work caused, we fix at no cost, with reports at 30, 60, and 90 days.

What we guarantee, and what we can’t

No one can promise how Google will rank your site after a move, including us. What we can promise is the work that protects your rankings, done carefully and put in writing.

Ask us about the guarantee

What no one can promise

Google decides rankings, not us. Even a careful migration can cause some movement while Google recrawls the new site and works out what changed, and it can take a few weeks to settle.

Google also changes how it ranks sites throughout the year. If an update shifts your traffic, that isn’t something any migration team controls. Anyone who guarantees your rankings is promising something they can’t deliver.

What we do promise

We take every precaution we know of, and we stay accountable after launch.

  • Every page we can find gets a new home. We collect old addresses from your sitemap, Google Search Console, analytics, and links from other sites. Each one gets a destination: the matching page, the closest match, or a removal you’ve agreed to. You see the full list before launch.

  • Nothing is removed by accident. Pages you choose to retire are removed on purpose. If any other old link stops working after launch, we fix it.

  • We watch for 90 days. After launch we track which pages Google indexes, any errors it reports, and traffic to the pages we moved, and we send you a report at 30, 60, and 90 days.

  • If it’s our mistake, we fix it for free. If something we missed or broke causes a problem in those 90 days, we fix it at no cost.

What it doesn’t cover

The guarantee covers our work. It doesn’t cover Google algorithm updates, content you change after launch, pages removed at your request, or problems caused by your host, third-party plugins, or other vendors.

When Shopify isn’t the right move

If your store relies on a custom-built checkout, extensions with no Shopify equivalent, or complex B2B pricing, rebuilding them can cost more than keeping your current platform well maintained. If your store is small and runs smoothly, better hosting may be all you need. We’ll tell you which applies before you commit.

FAQ

Shopify migration pricing, passwords, rankings, and how quotes work. If your question isn’t here, send us your store and ask.

How much do Shopify migration services cost?

Most store migrations start at $3,500 for up to 250 products and 25 pages, and Magento stores start at $7,500. Larger catalogs, subscriptions, and B2B stores are quoted after we review the store. Every quote includes the redirect map, SEO fields, and 90 days of monitoring.

Can’t we use Shopify’s free migration app?

Shopify’s Store Migration app moves product and customer data, and it’s a good start for small stores. It doesn’t give you a redirect for every old address, and order history, reviews, SEO fields, and blog posts need other tools or hands-on work. That’s the part we handle.

Do customers need new passwords?

No. Passwords can’t be moved to Shopify, but Shopify customer accounts sign in with an email and a one-time code, so customers can sign in from day one.

Will we lose our Google rankings?

Lasting losses usually come from missed redirects or lost SEO titles, which we map before launch. Expect some movement while Google recrawls. We monitor search for 90 days and fix anything our work caused at no charge. No one can promise rankings, but our guarantee covers our work.

Do you work with teams in the UK and EU?

Yes. We take on Shopify migrations for teams in the UK and EU. The work is done remotely, and calls and the launch are scheduled around your time zone.

Do you move stores off Shopify?

Sometimes. Send us the store and where you want it to go, and we’ll tell you whether it’s a move we take on.
