Magento to Shopify, with every old URL redirected

Magento 1 hasn’t had a security patch since June 2020, and older Adobe Commerce 2.4 versions are out of support. We move your products, customers, and order history to Shopify, redirect every old address Magento has on record, and monitor search for 90 days after launch.

Who this Magento to Shopify migration is for

A good fit

  • Magento 1 stores that are running without security patches
  • Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce stores on versions that are out of support or soon will be
  • Teams spending more on Magento developers and hosting than on growing the store
  • Stores whose product and category pages bring in organic traffic

Probably not a fit

  • Stores with heavy custom code or complex B2B pricing that Shopify would only approximate
  • Companies with an in-house Magento team who are happy to keep upgrading
  • Multi-brand setups with many store views (separate languages or storefronts), where Shopify may not fit

Why Magento stores are moving

Magento only stays supported if you keep upgrading, and each Adobe Commerce version has a fixed support window.

  • Magento 1 has had no security patches since June 2020

Adobe released the last Magento 1 patches before support ended on June 30, 2020. Card-payment security rules (PCI DSS 6.3.3) require critical security patches within a month of release. A Magento 1 store can’t get them anymore.

  • Older Adobe Commerce versions are out of support

Adobe Commerce 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 no longer get regular updates, only security fixes until May 31, 2027. Version 2.4.6 left standard support on August 11, 2026.

  • Fewer developers and extensions

Magento runs 0.3% of all websites. Fewer stores usually means fewer developers and fewer maintained extensions.

What moves from Magento to Shopify

Products, customers, and orders move with migration apps. Magento’s record of old addresses and its store views need the most care.

What moves from Magento to Shopify
Products with options (like size or color)Moves unchangedBecome Shopify products with variants. Shopify allows up to 2,048 variants and three options per product, so products with more options are reworked with you first.
Simple and bundle productsMoves, with changesSimple products move directly. Bundles are rebuilt with a Shopify bundles app or as separate products.
CustomersMoves unchangedCustomer records move. Passwords can’t be moved, so customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email.
Order historyMoves unchangedMoved with a migration app so customers and your team can still see past orders.
Store views and languagesMoves, with changesEach store view is mapped to Shopify’s language and country settings. We check how yours are set up when we plan your move.
B2B accounts and pricingMoves, with changesShopify’s B2B features are available on its Basic plan and up. We compare them with your Magento setup before you commit.
ExtensionsRebuiltReplaced with Shopify apps or built-in features. We agree on each one with you before work starts.

Redirects and URLs

Where Magento to Shopify moves lose traffic

Magento keeps a record of every old address. We export it so no old link is missed.

  • .html suffixes

Magento product and category URLs often end in .html, set per store view. Shopify’s don’t, so each one gets its own permanent (301) redirect.

  • Duplicate product paths

When products include their category in the URL, Magento can serve one product at several addresses. Every version Google knows about is redirected.

  • Magento’s record of old addresses

Magento keeps a record of old and custom addresses, including ones that aren’t in your sitemap. We export it so the redirect list covers every one.

  • Filtered category pages

Filtered category pages (by size, color, or price) are mapped to the closest collection, so they don’t become dead ends.

  • Shopify’s redirect limits

Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects, and each one only starts working once the old page is gone, so we build and test the full list before launch.

How a Magento to Shopify migration works, step by step

    Quote

Send your site. We review it and send a quote and timeline within one business day.

  2. 02

    Build

We map every old page to its new address, rebuild your templates, and move content, images, and SEO on a private preview site you can check.

  3. 03

    Launch

We compare the old and new sites page by page, point your domain to the new site, tell Google about the new pages, and test each redirect once it’s live.

  4. 04

    Monitor

For 90 days we watch which pages Google indexes and how much traffic your moved pages get. Anything our work caused, we fix at no cost, with reports at 30, 60, and 90 days.

What we guarantee, and what we can’t

No one can promise how Google will rank your site after a move, including us. What we can promise is the work that protects your rankings, done carefully and put in writing.

Ask us about the guarantee

What no one can promise

Google decides rankings, not us. Even a careful migration can cause some movement while Google recrawls the new site and works out what changed, and it can take a few weeks to settle.

Google also changes how it ranks sites throughout the year. If an update shifts your traffic, that isn’t something any migration team controls. Anyone who guarantees your rankings is promising something they can’t deliver.

What we do promise

We take every precaution we know of, and we stay accountable after launch.

  • Every page we can find gets a new home. We collect old addresses from your sitemap, Google Search Console, analytics, and links from other sites. Each one gets a destination: the matching page, the closest match, or a removal you’ve agreed to. You see the full list before launch.

  • Nothing is removed by accident. Pages you choose to retire are removed on purpose. If any other old link stops working after launch, we fix it.

  • We watch for 90 days. After launch we track which pages Google indexes, any errors it reports, and traffic to the pages we moved, and we send you a report at 30, 60, and 90 days.

  • If it’s our mistake, we fix it for free. If something we missed or broke causes a problem in those 90 days, we fix it at no cost.

What it doesn’t cover

The guarantee covers our work. It doesn’t cover Google algorithm updates, content you change after launch, pages removed at your request, or problems caused by your host, third-party plugins, or other vendors.

When you should stay on Magento

If your store depends on heavy custom code or complex B2B pricing, staying on Adobe Commerce, either by upgrading or by moving to Adobe’s managed cloud version, may cost less than rebuilding on Shopify. Mage-OS, a free, community-run version of Magento, is another option for stores that want to stay on the same codebase.

Magento to Shopify questions

Common questions about moving from Magento to Shopify. If yours isn’t here, send us your site and ask. You’ll hear back within one business day.

Get a migration quote
Can you migrate Magento 1 directly to Shopify?

Yes. You don’t need to upgrade to Magento 2 first. We move products, customers, and orders straight from Magento 1.

Do customers need new passwords?

No. Passwords can’t be moved to Shopify, but Shopify customer accounts sign in with an email and a one-time code, so imported customers can sign in from day one.

Will our URLs change?

Yes. Shopify uses /products/ and /collections/, so every product and category address, including .html and category-path versions, gets its own redirect.

Why does this start at $7,500?

Magento stores usually have products with options, years of old addresses, and extensions to replace. The starting price covers up to 1,000 products. Larger catalogs, several store views, and B2B stores are quoted after review.

Will we lose our Google rankings?

Lasting losses usually come from missed old addresses and duplicate URLs, which we map from Magento’s records before launch. Expect some movement while Google recrawls. We monitor search for 90 days and fix anything our work caused at no charge. No one can promise rankings, but our guarantee covers our work.

How long does it take?

Most stores with up to 1,000 products take six to ten weeks. Larger catalogs take longer, and you get a timeline with your quote.
