BigCommerce to Shopify, without losing what ranks

Shopify’s free import tool doesn’t support BigCommerce. We move your products, customers, order history, and images, re-host files from BigCommerce’s servers, redirect every product and category URL that ranks or has links, and monitor search for 90 days after launch.

Who this BigCommerce to Shopify migration is for

A good fit

  • Growing stores that keep getting moved to a pricier BigCommerce plan as sales rise
  • Catalogs of any size, from a few dozen products to several thousand
  • Stores whose product and category pages bring in organic traffic
  • Teams that want Shopify’s app ecosystem and checkout

Probably not a fit

  • Stores that depend on BigCommerce’s B2B or multi-storefront features that Shopify may not match
  • Stores with very little traffic, where a fresh start on Shopify makes more sense
  • Teams happy with their BigCommerce plan and costs

Why BigCommerce stores move to Shopify

The trigger is usually the plan bill: BigCommerce ties your plan to your sales, and moves you up automatically.

  • Plans that upgrade themselves

Since June 1, 2026, BigCommerce moves stores up a plan automatically once sales over the past 12 months pass $30,000 on Core or $100,000 on Growth. Scale charges 0.9% on sales above $33,333 a month and moves to Performance at $2 million.

  • BigCommerce is now Commerce.com

BigCommerce’s parent company renamed itself Commerce.com in July 2025 as it shifted its focus, which leaves some merchants unsure where the store platform is headed.

  • A platform built for selling

Merchants sold $378 billion through Shopify in 2025, up 29% from the year before, according to its annual report.

What moves from BigCommerce to Shopify

Products and customers move with migration apps. Order history, images, and redirects need extra steps.

What moves from BigCommerce to Shopify
Products and variantsMoves unchangedMoved with their images, prices, stock, and options. Shopify allows three options per product, so products with more are reworked with you first.
CustomersMoves unchangedCustomer records move. BigCommerce doesn’t export passwords, so customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email.
Order historyMoves unchangedExported from BigCommerce and converted for import, so past orders stay visible to customers and your team.
Images and filesMoves unchangedImages on BigCommerce’s servers are re-hosted on Shopify. Their old addresses can’t be redirected, so we update every link on your site.
Existing redirectsMoves unchangedRedirects you already set up in BigCommerce are kept and added to the new list.
ReviewsMoves, with changesMoved into a Shopify review app where your BigCommerce review setup allows an export.
Theme and appsRebuiltThe design is rebuilt in a Shopify theme, and BigCommerce apps are replaced with Shopify apps or built-in features.

Redirects and URLs

Where BigCommerce to Shopify moves lose traffic

BigCommerce lets stores choose their own URL format, so we map yours before anything moves.

  • Product URLs

Depending on your settings, products sit at the root, like /product-name, or under a category. Shopify uses /products/, so each one gets its own permanent (301) redirect.

  • Category URLs

Category pages, including addresses that start with /categories/, map to Shopify collections.

  • Brand and blog pages

Brand pages and blog posts need their own redirects. Shopify puts posts under /blogs/.

  • Image addresses

Images stored on BigCommerce’s servers can’t be redirected, so they’re re-hosted and every link to them updated.

  • Shopify’s redirect limits

Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects, and each one only starts working once the old page is gone, so we build and test the full list before launch.

What we guarantee, and what we can’t

No one can promise how Google will rank your site after a move, including us. What we can promise is the work that protects your rankings, done carefully and put in writing.

Ask us about the guarantee

What no one can promise

Google decides rankings, not us. Even a careful migration can cause some movement while Google recrawls the new site and works out what changed, and it can take a few weeks to settle.

Google also changes how it ranks sites throughout the year. If an update shifts your traffic, that isn’t something any migration team controls. Anyone who guarantees your rankings is promising something they can’t deliver.

What we do promise

We take every precaution we know of, and we stay accountable after launch.

  • Every page we can find gets a new home. We collect old addresses from your sitemap, Google Search Console, analytics, and links from other sites. Each one gets a destination: the matching page, the closest match, or a removal you’ve agreed to. You see the full list before launch.

  • Nothing is removed by accident. Pages you choose to retire are removed on purpose. If any other old link stops working after launch, we fix it.

  • We watch for 90 days. After launch we track which pages Google indexes, any errors it reports, and traffic to the pages we moved, and we send you a report at 30, 60, and 90 days.

  • If it’s our mistake, we fix it for free. If something we missed or broke causes a problem in those 90 days, we fix it at no cost.

What it doesn’t cover

The guarantee covers our work. It doesn’t cover Google algorithm updates, content you change after launch, pages removed at your request, or problems caused by your host, third-party plugins, or other vendors.

When you should stay on BigCommerce

If your sales sit comfortably inside your plan and the store does what you need, the move may not pay for itself. Stores built on BigCommerce’s multi-storefront or B2B features should compare Shopify’s equivalents carefully before moving, and we’ll do that with you before you commit.

Get a migration quote
Do customers need new passwords?

No. BigCommerce doesn’t export passwords, but Shopify customer accounts sign in with an email and a one-time code, so imported customers can sign in from day one.

Can’t we use Shopify’s free import tool?

Not for BigCommerce. Shopify’s Store Migration app doesn’t list BigCommerce as a source, so the move uses migration apps and exports instead.

Will our order history come across?

Yes. We export it from BigCommerce and import it into Shopify, so customers can still see past orders.

Will our URLs change?

Yes. Shopify uses /products/ and /collections/, so every product and category address gets its own redirect before launch.

How many products can you move?

Any size. The starting price covers up to 250 products and 25 pages. Larger catalogs and B2B stores are quoted after we review the store.

How long does it take?

Most stores with up to 250 products take three to six weeks. Larger catalogs take longer, and you get a timeline with your quote.
