Joomla to WordPress, with your articles and URLs mapped

Joomla 5 stopped getting bug fixes on October 13, 2026, and half of all Joomla sites still run Joomla 3. We move your articles, categories, menus, and images to WordPress. Then we redirect every page that gets traffic or has links pointing to it and monitor search for 90 days after launch.

Who this Joomla to WordPress migration is for

A good fit

  • Joomla 3 and 4 sites already past security support
  • Joomla 5 sites deciding between the Joomla 6 upgrade and a move
  • Teams that struggle to find a Joomla developer or keep extensions updated
  • Business, nonprofit, and publishing sites whose organic traffic matters

Probably not a fit

  • Sites where a large online store is the main project, which suits a separate store quote better than this service
  • Teams happy on Joomla 5 who only need the Joomla 6 upgrade
  • Communities that depend on Joomla-only social or membership extensions with no WordPress equivalent

Why Joomla sites are moving in 2026

Most Joomla sites now run a version that has lost security support, or soon will.

  • Joomla 5 bug fixes ended October 13, 2026

Joomla 5 now gets security fixes only, and those end on October 12, 2027. Joomla 4 stopped getting security updates on October 14, 2025.

  • Half of Joomla sites still run Joomla 3

51.3% of Joomla sites run version 3. Official support ended in August 2023, and the paid extended support that followed ended on February 17, 2025.

  • A small and shrinking platform

Joomla runs 1.1% of all websites, against 39.6% for WordPress. Fewer sites usually means fewer developers and fewer maintained extensions.

What moves from Joomla to WordPress

Articles, categories, and images move directly. Menus and page addresses need reshaping. Extensions are replaced.

What moves from Joomla to WordPress
ArticlesMoves unchangedArticles become WordPress posts or pages, with their published, unpublished, and archived status kept.
Categories and tagsMoves unchangedCategories keep their hierarchy and tags move with each article.
Images and filesMoves unchangedFiles under /images/ are moved and their URLs kept working or redirected.
MenusMoves, with changesMenus are rebuilt in WordPress. Joomla builds page addresses from menu items, so each menu-based URL is mapped to its new address.
UsersMoves, with changesAccounts and roles move. Whether passwords carry over depends on your Joomla version, which we check before work starts. If they can’t, users set a new password at launch.
K2 and other content extensionsRebuiltK2 items are moved into WordPress posts and fields. K2 was never released for Joomla 4 or 5.
FormsRebuiltForms built with RSForm, ChronoForms, or similar are rebuilt in a WordPress form plugin, with past submissions exported where the extension allows.
Multilingual contentMoves, with changesLanguage versions from Joomla’s built-in language links or Falang are moved into a WordPress translation plugin, keeping each language’s URLs.

Redirects and URLs

Where Joomla to WordPress moves lose traffic

Joomla can serve the same article at several addresses. Each one Google knows about needs a redirect.

  • index.php in addresses

Joomla addresses include /index.php/ unless a server setting removes it. Many older sites have both versions indexed.

  • .html suffixes

Joomla can add .html to the end of every address. WordPress doesn’t, so each one needs a redirect or a matching rule.

  • Menu-based URLs

Joomla builds addresses from menu items, so an article can live under more than one path. We redirect every version we find.

  • Addresses with ?option= in them

Older links like ?option=com_content&view=article&id=12 still reach some Joomla sites. They need their own redirects.

  • Language prefixes

Language codes like /es/ must map to the same structure in WordPress, or each language loses its rankings separately.

How a Joomla to WordPress migration works, step by step

  1. 01

    Quote

Send your site. We review it and send a quote and timeline within one business day.

  2. 02

    Build

We map every old page to its new address, rebuild your templates, and move content, images, and SEO on a private preview site you can check.

  3. 03

    Launch

We compare the old and new sites page by page, point your domain to the new site, tell Google about the new pages, and test each redirect once it’s live.

  4. 04

    Monitor

For 90 days we watch which pages Google indexes and how much traffic your moved pages get. Anything our work caused, we fix at no cost, with reports at 30, 60, and 90 days.

What we guarantee, and what we can’t

No one can promise how Google will rank your site after a move, including us. What we can promise is the work that protects your rankings, done carefully and put in writing.

Ask us about the guarantee

What no one can promise

Google decides rankings, not us. Even a careful migration can cause some movement while Google recrawls the new site and works out what changed, and it can take a few weeks to settle.

Google also changes how it ranks sites throughout the year. If an update shifts your traffic, that isn’t something any migration team controls. Anyone who guarantees your rankings is promising something they can’t deliver.

What we do promise

We take every precaution we know of, and we stay accountable after launch.

  • Every page we can find gets a new home. We collect old addresses from your sitemap, Google Search Console, analytics, and links from other sites. Each one gets a destination: the matching page, the closest match, or a removal you’ve agreed to. You see the full list before launch.

  • Nothing is removed by accident. Pages you choose to retire are removed on purpose. If any other old link stops working after launch, we fix it.

  • We watch for 90 days. After launch we track which pages Google indexes, any errors it reports, and traffic to the pages we moved, and we send you a report at 30, 60, and 90 days.

  • If it’s our mistake, we fix it for free. If something we missed or broke causes a problem in those 90 days, we fix it at no cost.

What it doesn’t cover

The guarantee covers our work. It doesn’t cover Google algorithm updates, content you change after launch, pages removed at your request, or problems caused by your host, third-party plugins, or other vendors.

When you should stay on Joomla

If you’re on Joomla 5 and rely on Joomla-only extensions, moving to Joomla 6 may cost less. Joomla describes the 5.4 to 6.0 step as an upgrade, not a migration. Joomla 3 sites face a bigger jump either way. Extensions like K2 were never released for newer Joomla versions, so some features have to be replaced whichever way you go.

Joomla to WordPress questions

Common questions about moving from Joomla to WordPress. If yours isn’t here, send us your site and ask. You’ll hear back within one business day.

Get a migration quote
Can you migrate Joomla 3 directly to WordPress?

Yes. Joomla 3 doesn’t need to be upgraded first. We read content straight from the Joomla database and map it into WordPress.

Will our URLs change?

We keep URLs identical wherever WordPress allows it. Every URL that does change gets its own permanent (301) redirect, including index.php, .html, and menu-based versions.

What happens to K2 and our other extensions?

K2 content moves into WordPress posts and fields. Other extensions are replaced with maintained WordPress plugins, and we agree on each one with you before work starts.

Do you migrate VirtueMart stores?

Yes, as a separate quote. Products and orders usually move to WooCommerce, and the scope depends on your catalog and payment setup.

How long does a Joomla to WordPress migration take?

Most sites with up to 50 pages and articles take three to six weeks. Larger sites and multilingual setups take longer, and you get a timeline with your quote.

Should we upgrade to Joomla 6 instead?

Sometimes. From Joomla 5 the upgrade is smaller. From Joomla 3 it’s a bigger project, because some extensions never made it to newer versions. We’re happy to compare the upgrade and the move before you commit.
